ABU DHABI - Shaikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) inaugurated yesterday the new location of the Arts Workshop in the presence of Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director General of ADACH, Sawsan Khamis Director of the Atelier, officials from ADACH in addition to art teachers and students.
The Arts Workshop is located now in the National Theatre building. The Atelier is one of ADACH initiatives to promote arts through courses for adults on painting, photography, Arabic calligraphy, sculpture, ceramic on potter’s wheels and lecture on history of art.
Sawsan Khamis give brief presentation on the objectives of the Arts Workshop which helped to improve the skills of new talents over the past years in Abu Dhabi and put them on the right track through professional workshops with high profile artist.
Shaikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan honored Dr. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, ADACH Deputy Chairman, for his supportive role for the Arts Workshop and culture and arts in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Nusseibeh joined the government of Abu Dhabi in 1968, as the official interpreter of late Sheikh Zayed. Today, he remains the official translator of the President, and is one of the advisors to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs.
Dr. Nusseibeh is a member of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Documentation and Research, a member of the Board of Directors of the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and the President of the Abu Dhabi Concert Committee in addition to many other positions.
Shaikh Sultan also honored Emirati photographer Nasser Haji Malek, the photography workshops instructor at the Arts Workshop.
Through his works, Malek spreads the culture of image away from the consumption patterns which is characterized by aesthetic dimensions based to humans.
He participated in many in many group exhibitions in addition to a solo exhibition and gained many prizes including the third prize of the “Eighth Photography Exhibition” and second prize of the “photography competition 1995” at the cultural foundation.
Beside his distinguished photography skills, Malek works as a diving instructor and underwater photography coach.
The Arts Workshop also offers art courses for beginners starting every month in the morning or evening sessions in an initiative to discover the world of fine arts.
