 Back officially?
Libyan oil chief resumes duties
NOC’s website reveals Ghanem has returned to work one month after being replaced following his resignation.
TRIPOLI - The chairman of Libya's national oil company, Shukri Ghanem, has resumed his duties a month after being replaced following his reported resignation, according to the company website on Monday.
The company NOC said on October 1 that Ghanem would be replaced in the interim by managing director Ali Sogher, who stood in for the chairman at OPEC's last meeting after the Financial Times said he resigned.
But although there was no announcement of Ghanem's return to work, the company's website is once again reporting his activities in his old function.
"Mr. Ghanem never left his post," a company source said without elaborating.
According to the NOC website, Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi's son Seif al-Islam held a meeting with Ghanem and Prime Minister Baghdadi Mahmudi, in an apparent move to reconcile the two.
Ghanem, who is close to Seif al-Islam and holds the rank of minister without being a member of the government, opposes Libyan authorities' moves to strengthen the grip of foreign companies present in the country. |
