The scribble was judged insulting to King Mohammed VI

Father seeks Morocco's King pardon for son

Yassine jailed for one year for writing ‘God, the Fatherland and Barca’ on his school blackboard.

RABAT - The father of a student jailed for a year for "insulting" Morocco's King said Monday he hoped to get a royal pardon for his son.

Haj Mohamed Belassal said he would be asking the king to intervene in this case and release his teenage son Yassine.

Yassine, who supports Spanish football club Barcelona, was jailed in September for writing "God, the Fatherland and Barca" on his school blackboard.

The scribble was judged insulting to King Mohammed VI because the country's emblem is: "God, the fatherland, the King."

Yassine Belassal's appeal is scheduled for Wednesday.
