Morocco's interior ministry says voluntary repatriation is undertaken in cooperation between kingdom and Nigeria.

OUJDA, Morocco - Morocco has sent home 416 illegal Nigerian immigrants, in the first such repatriation by the North African country, the Moroccan interior ministry said late Sunday.

The return home of the Nigerians on board a Royal Air Maroc flight Saturday from the eastern city of Oujda was a "voluntary repatriation undertaken in cooperation between Moroccan and Nigerian authorities," the ministry said in a statement.

The return was conducted so as to respect the dignity and human rights of those involved, the ministry said, adding that those sent home were provided with adequate food, housing, and medical care.
