New flu cases reported in Bahrain

Gulf kingdom says seven swine flu cases returning from Washington are in quarantine in Manama hospital.

MANAMA - The Gulf kingdom of Bahrain on Monday reported another seven cases of swine flu among students returning from studies in the United States.

The seven, who had been among a group of 13 returning from Washington via Kuwait, were in quarantine in a Manama hospital, the health ministry announced, adding that the other six students had not developed symptoms of the A(H1N1) virus.

Bahrain reported its first case of swine flu in May, affecting a 21-year-old Bahraini who had also returned from studying in the United States.

On Sunday, neighbouring Saudi Arabia reported three new cases of the virus, bringing to 11 the number of people affected in the kingdom.

According to the latest World Health Organiation tally, nearly 30,000 people have been affected in 74 countries, with 145 dying since the first case was detected in Mexico in April.
