ABU DHABI - Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage is hosting an exhibition entitled "A Walk into Islamic History" that will be on display 25th September through 4th October 2007.
Hoda Kanoo, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage Board of Directors Member and Founder of Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, stressed the importance of the exhibition as Islamic art is one of the most prominent arts and has made great contributions in various fields of art for more than ten centuries.
Hoda Kanoo noted that the exhibition comprises a comprehensive and international collection of various Islamic arts.
The compilation exceeds geographical boundaries and historical eras.
The collection of Dr. Abdullatif Kanoo documents the progress of Islamic civilization in the Gulf region.
It comprises more than 5000 pieces of art that reflects the diversity and glory of Islamic civilization, and the creative abilities of its artists.
Islamic manuscripts, the Quranic in particular, were the nucleus of Dr. Kanoo's collection.
There are also manuscripts of science, medicine, chemistry, architecture, history, geography and literature.
The exhibition contains many handicrafts artifacts, including pottery, metal and glass objects, in addition to textiles, garments, carpets, jewelry and scientific appliances of astronomy and unique golden and silver coins.
Dr. Abdullatif Kanoo is a scholar of Islamic heritage and founder of “Beit Al Quran" – House of Quran- in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is a leading centre in the Gulf region and Islamic world.
He has an active political, economical and academic role in Bahrain, and he has launched many cultural and educational initiatives.
Dr. Kanoo has written many books, articles and research papers on the Qur'an and history of Islam.
He participates in local, regional and international conferences, seminars and forums, where he has been awarded with medals, honorary certificates from world leaders.
This exhibition is the first of its kind to be held outside Bahrain. It is hosted by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage at the Cultural Foundation.
The ten-day exhibition is expected to attract many Islamic scholars, art lovers, historians and all those who are interested in culture.
This collection is slated to tour a number of museums worldwide.
