BAGHDAD - At least eight Iraqis were killed and 33 wounded Friday when two missiles hit a Baghdad residential area in a raid by the US-led coalition, witnesses said.
They said the missiles completely destroyed one house and severely damaged three others when they fell at around 12:30 pm (0930 GMT) in the al-Mansur area in the heart of the Iraqi capital.
Eight bodies were taken out of the rubble of the homes, the witnesses said.
"These are America's smart bombs," one young man fumed as he searched through the rubble.
Witnesses said one resident was thrown by the explosion as he completed his noon prayers.
The force of the blast was strong enough to rip out several trees.
Earlier Friday, Information Minister Mohammad Said al-Sahhaf had said seven civilians were killed and 92 wounded in overnight strikes by the coalition, which has been waging war for more than a week to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
