Bourita: Morocco will determine when and how it will react to Smara attacks.

Moroccan Foreign Minister says Morocco’s goal is not escalation but to act wisely.

RABAT - Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reiterated Wednesday Rabat’s condemnation of the October 28 attacks that targeted several areas in the southern city of Smara and killed one person.

Bourita said that Morocco’s goal was not escalation but to act wisely, adding that the North African kingdom will determine when and how it will react to the attacks.

The attacks that were claimed by the Algeria-back Polisario Front killed one person and injured two others.

Morocco launched an investigation into the explosions, vowing to take the necessary measures against the perpetrators.

Morocco’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York Omar Hilale said last month that the four explosions took place in industrial and residential areas where there are no military installations.

“We are currently in the process of collecting data, particularly scientific and ballistic ones, and we are not naming anyone responsible for the attack. But there is a bundle of clues,” he said, adding that these clues were numerous and pointed particularly in the same direction.

Hilale vowed that the attacks will not go unpunished.

“Those responsible will have to assume their legal and political responsibility, not only those who carried out these attacks but also those who are behind them, those who shelter them, those who provide them with missiles, Katyushas or mortars,”   he warned.

“Morocco will take the necessary decisions when the investigation is over,” he added.
