TRIPOLI – The Libyan Amazigh Supreme Council (CSAL) denounced on Monday Algeria’s interference in Libya’s internal affairs and called on Tripoli to reject it.

“In a blatant interference in Libyan internal affairs, the Algerian Ambassador to Libya called on the Libyan Foreign Ministry, during his meeting with Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush to cancel and end to the work and activity of the Libyan Amazigh Supreme Council,” said the CSAL in a statement.

The CSAL reaffirmed its rejection of “any interference in our internal affairs,” saying that the it is a legitimate elected body and is considered the Amazigh’s legitimate representative both locally and abroad.

“None (internally or externally) has the right to terminate its existence, as we affirm and declare that Libyan Amazigh militants have no interference in the internal affairs of any North African country, especially in the political affairs of these countries,” it said.

The CSAL insisted that the cultural exchange between the Amazighs of the North African countries is a legitimate thing, and no one has the right “to prevent us” from doing so.

“Participation in cultural festivals related to common Amazigh language, literature, art, heritage and events, without affecting the policies of these countries is a legitimate business,” said the CSAL.

“The Algerians claim that their political problems with the Kingdom of Morocco are not among our concerns and we do not interfere,” it said, adding that its relationship with the Amazighs of Morocco was based on cultural ties and the exchange of experiences in the field of language and culture.
