Morocco achieves highest IAEA nuclear assurance level

The certification reflects the robustness of Morocco's regulatory infrastructure, its unwavering commitment to nuclear transparency, and strict compliance with international obligations on the non-proliferation of nuclear materials.

CASABLANCA - Morocco has, for the first time, achieved the highest level of assurance from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding nuclear safeguards, announced the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) on Tuesday.

"For the first time, the IAEA publishes in its annual report on the implementation of nuclear safeguards for the year 2024 that Morocco benefits from the extended conclusion attesting that all nuclear materials present on the national territory are used exclusively for peaceful purposes," the AMSSNuR said in a press release.

For the Agency, this certification reflects the robustness of the North African Kingdom's regulatory infrastructure, its unwavering commitment to nuclear transparency, and strict compliance with international obligations regarding the non-proliferation of nuclear materials.

This recognition obtained by Morocco is the culmination of several years of verification activities carried out under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and its Additional Protocol, ratified by Morocco in 1975 and 2011 respectively.
