No deal reached between Sudan’s ousted PM, military
CAIRO - A source close to Sudan's ousted prime minister Abdalla Hamdok said on Wednesday no agreement has been reached between him and military leaders and talks are still ongoing.
The source’s statement came few minutes after Saudi-owned al Arabiya TV reported that Hamdok has agreed to return to lead a government, citing unnamed sources.
Hamdok agreed to make the move on the condition that political detainees were released, al Hadath TV said, citing sources.
US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffery Feltman urged on Tuesday Sudan’s top general to restore the country's civilian-led government.
Feltman said General Abdel-Fattah Burhan should allow Hamdok and his Cabinet to resume their work and release government officials and politicians detained in connection with the takeover.
