French President thanks King Mohammed VI for the success of the mediation that culminated in the release of the French nationals who had been detained in Ouagadougou since December 2023 for espionage.

RABAT - Following the mediation of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré has accepted his request for the release of four French nationals, detained in Ouagadougou since December 2023, Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates said.

This humanitarian act was possible thanks to the excellent ties between the Moroccan monarch and Traoré and the long-standing good ties between the North African Kingdom and Burkina Faso, the Ministry underlined added in a press release.

The four French nationals were accused of espionage and detained for a year in Burkina Faso.

French President Emmanuel Macron spoke yesterday on the telephone with King Mohammed VI to warmly thank him for the success of the mediation, according to the Élysée.
