Head of Yemen's Houthi government killed in Israeli strike
SANAA - The head of Yemen's Houthi government and a number of ministers were killed in an Israeli strike on Sanaa on Thursday, the news agency run by the group said on Saturday, citing a statement by Houthi leader Mahdi al-Mashat.
The Houthi government said Ahmed Ghalib al-Rahwi, who held a largely administrative role with little political authority, was killed along with several cabinet ministers in an Israeli attack on the rebel capital Sanaa on Thursday afternoon. A number of other government officials were badly wounded in the attack, which appears set to escalate the continuing standoff between the Israel and Iran-backed Houthis.
Israel's army radio said on Friday the military had targeted the Houthi chief of staff and the Iran-aligned group's defence minister on Thursday, and was awaiting confirmation on the outcome of the strike.
