Oman's Sultan orders cabinet reshuffle

Sultan Haitham appoints Salem al-Oufi as oil minister and issues a decree establishing a higher justice council.

DUBAI - Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said on Thursday ordered a cabinet reshuffle in a royal decree, the country's state television reported, with one of the most notable changes being the appointment of Salem al-Oufi as oil minister.

The sultan also issued a decree establishing a higher justice council.

Following the death of his predecessor Sultan Qaboos, Sultan Haitham has shaken up the government and state entities and moved to enact long-awaited fiscal reform, appointing finance and foreign affairs ministers and a central bank chairman - portfolios held by the late sultan.
