Somali FM accuses Ethiopia of illegally smuggling in weapons

Fiqi’s statement comes after his Ethiopian counterpart said he was concerned that ammunition supplied to Somalia would end up in "the hands of terrorists."

MOGADISHU - Somalia's foreign minister accused Ethiopia on Tuesday of smuggling weapons into his country after his Ethiopian counterpart said he was concerned that ammunition supplied to Somalia would end up in "the hands of terrorists."

"Ethiopia's motivation behind these defamatory statements is its attempt to conceal the illegal smuggling of weapons across the Somali borders, which are falling into the hands of civilians and terrorists," Ahmed Moalim Fiqi told Reuters a day after an Egyptian warship offloaded heavy weaponry in Mogadishu.
