Turkey unveils world’s first drone carrier
ANKARA - Turkey unveiled on Monday its largest home-made warship and the world's first drone carrier.
Built in Istanbul-based shipyard Sedef, TCG Anadolu, which is 231 metres (758 feet) long and 32 metres (105 feet) wide, can carry combat helicopters and military drones, as well as up to 94 vehicles, including 13 tanks.
“Turkish UCAVs Bayraktar TB3 and Kizilelma drones and light attack aircraft Hurjet can land on and take off from the ship,” said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the delivery ceremony in Istanbul.
“Turkey will be able to conduct military and humanitarian operations all around the world thanks to the ship, which can also carry armoured vehicles,” he said.
“Powerful diplomacy is only possible due to strong defence industry,” he added.
