UAE starts building first green hydrogen plant

Emirati energy minister says his country has started building the first green hydrogen plant in the Middle East.

DUBAI - The United Arab Emirates started building the first green hydrogen plant in the Middle East, the country's energy minister Suhail Al Mazrouei said on Tuesday.

The UAE said earlier this month that it aimed to capture 25% of the global hydrogen fuel market by 2030.

The major oil producer also said that it was implementing more than seven ambitious hydrogen projects, targeting main export markets including Japan, South Korea, Germany and India, in addition to other markets in Europe and East Asia.

The Gulf Arab state was among around 200 countries in accepting a compromise deal in Glasgow aimed at limiting rising global temperatures and curbing greenhouse emissions.
