RAMADI, Iraq - Three sons of the governor of Iraq's restive Al-Anbar province were kidnapped by gunmen who barged into the official's private home in the flashpoint city of Ramadi west of Baghdad, police said Wednesday.

Unknown gunmen barged into the governor's home, snatched his sons aged between 15 and 30, and then torched the building while Governor Abdul Karim Burghis al-Rawi was at work, Captain Omar Dulaimi said.

Dulaimi named Rawi's missing sons as Ibrahim, Ezzedine and Mustafa and said police had launched an immediate investigation to determine their whereabouts.

US troops have cordoned off the scene of the abduction.

Ramadi is the main city in the predominantly Sunni Muslim province of Al-Anbar, where US troops have come under persistent attack and loyalty to ousted dictator Saddam Hussein runs high.
