Military says US soldier assigned to Task Force Olympia killed by small arms fire during combat operations in Mosul.

 
MOSUL, Iraq - A US soldier was shot dead in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Thursday, where US forces had conducted air and ground attacks on suspected rebel targets, the military said on Friday.

"A soldier assigned to Task Force Olympia was killed by small arms fire during combat operations in Mosul," it said in a brief statement.

The US military said on Thursday it attacked suspected rebel targets in Iraq's third city, Mosul, with air and ground fire following a spike in unrest.
