Morocco’s Laila Ouachi honoured by A.D. King Foundation
CASABLANCA - Laila Ouachi, President of the Lagon Dakhla Association and co-founder of the women’s endurance challenge Sahraouiya, has been honoured by the A.D. King Foundation for her outstanding contributions to sports diplomacy and women’s empowerment through athletics.
The A.D. King Foundation, based in Atlanta (USA), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of Dr. Alfred Daniel King, brother of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It promotes youth empowerment, civic leadership, and nonviolent strategies for change worldwide.
Since its inception in 2014, the Sahraouiya challenge has established itself as a premier sporting and humanitarian event in Africa and the Middle East.
Each year, it brings together women from over 20 nationalities in the iconic city of Dakhla, in southern Morocco, combining athletic challenges, teamwork, and social activism. Each edition supports various causes related to women’s rights, health, education, and human dignity.
"Sahraouiya is much more than a sports challenge—it is an act of faith in women’s ability to change the world together. This recognition from the A.D. King Foundation is a tremendous honor and an encouragement to continue our mission," said Ouachi.
“This award celebrates a unique vision in which sports serve as a catalyst for diplomacy, social cohesion, and the promotion of peace and solidarity,” she added.
