Morocco, Djibouti sign maritime cooperation deal

The signed agreement seeks to ensure better coordination of bilateral maritime traffic and related maritime transport.

RABAT - Morocco and Djibouti signed, Monday in Rabat, a cooperation agreement aimed at developing maritime relations between the two countries.

Inked by Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and Djiboutian Minister of Infrastructure and Equipment, Hassan Houmed, this agreement aims to ensure better coordination of bilateral maritime traffic and related maritime transport.

Speaking on this occasion, Abdeljalil stressed the importance of consolidating cooperation between the actors of maritime transport and contribute, in general, to the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Under this agreement, noted the Minister, the two parties undertake to cooperate for the development of the merchant marine between their respective ports and encourage shipping companies to undertake the necessary measures to provide efficient maritime services to serve the interests of shipping companies and carriers, and to build partnerships for an effective contribution of the fleets of the two countries to maritime trade.

The Djibouti minister, for his part, stressed that this agreement will offer operators of maritime transport the opportunity to install, on the territory of the other party, branches and companies to carry out their activities, while offering facilities respectively, adding that this will create a dynamic and consolidate the good relations of cooperation between Morocco and Djibouti.

This agreement aims to establish a framework of cooperation for the promotion of maritime transport, said Houmed, noting that it also provides for an exchange of information on all maritime affairs, including vocational training of workers in the merchant marine, ports and maritime administrations.

This meeting was an opportunity for both parties to welcome the distinguished relations of cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Djibouti in various fields, particularly the sectors of transport and logistics, and to express their common desire to develop bilateral cooperation.
