The judicial police opens an investigation into the death of one person following the firing of projectiles at residential areas in the town of Es-Smara as the Polisario Front claims responsibility for the attack.

LAAYOUNE - The King's Attorney General at the Laâyoune Court of Appeal announced that the competent judicial police have been tasked with carrying out a judicial investigation after the death of one person and the injury of three others, following the firing of projectiles at residential areas in the town of Es-Smara.

The King's Attorney General at the Laâyoune Court of Appeal pointed out, in a press release, that he entrusted the investigation team with carrying out the necessary technical and ballistic expertise in order to identify the origin and the nature of the projectiles which caused the death of one person and the injury of three others, including two in serious condition, who were carried to the Laâyoune military hospital to receive the necessary care.

The same source said that the King's Attorney General at the Laâyoune Court of Appeal will ensure to establish the appropriate legal effects in light of the results of the investigation.

After a long silence the Algeria-backed Polisario front issued a press release, but without explicitly claiming responsibility for the attack.

In its press release n°901 published on Sunday 29th, around 7 p.m., on the website of the SPRASD, the official press agency of the separatists, the Polisario pseudo-ministry of defense claimed to have carried out attacks against the “entrenchments” of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in the regions of Mahbès, Es-Smara and Farsia, “causing significant losses” in human and material terms.
