UAE allocates $5 million for UN relief in Gaza

The allocation of funds follows a visit to the UAE by chief UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza.

CAIRO - The United Arab Emirates has allocated $5 million to support the United Nations in its humanitarian relief work in the Gaza Strip, state news agency WAM reported on Saturday.

The allocation of funds followed a visit to the UAE by chief UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza Sigrid Kaag, WAM said.

A string of countries, including the United States, Britain and Italy, have paused funding to the UN Palestinian refugee agency, which has opened an investigation into several of its thousands of employees and severed ties with those people.

UNRWA on Thursday said its entire operations in the Middle East, not only in Gaza, will likely be forced to shut down by the end of February if its funding remains suspended.
