UAE, Jordan condemn Israeli minister's storming of al-Aqsa Mosque

The two countries condemn in in "severest" terms Ben-Gvir’s visit of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem.

RIYADH - The United Arab Emirates and Jordan on Tuesday condemned the Israeli minister's visit of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem.

The UAE condemned what it said was Israeli far right national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's "storming" of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, state news agency WAM reported.

Jordan also said it condemned in "severest" terms Ben-Gvir’s visit under heavy security.

"Jordan condemns in the severest of terms the storming of the Aqsa mosque and violating its sanctity," said a statement by the foreign ministry.

The compound is Islam's third holiest site after Mecca and Medina and Judaism's most sacred site, a vestige of two ancient temples of the faith.

The UAE signed a normalisation agreement with Israel in 2020.
