Vance warns Iran: 'Violence will be met with violence'
WASHINGTON – US Vice President JD Vance said on Friday that "violence will be met with violence" after the US struck Iran in the wake of an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
"If they have disagreements about how the MOU is being applied, they can pick up the phone," Vance said on X.
US Central Command said aircraft struck missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites in Iran in response to an Iranian drone strike on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. CNN, citing an unnamed US official, reported the US operation had concluded. Iranian media said a projectile struck the area around a pier in Sirik in southern Iran.
Iran’s state media reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched a coordinated strike targeting several locations in the region where the US Army is currently deployed in response to the US strikes.
According to official state television, the elite military force claimed direct responsibility for the operations, stating that the strikes were designed to hit key infrastructure hosting American military personnel across the region. While the exact locations and the extent of the casualties or damages have not yet been independently verified, the announcement marks a significant and direct confrontation between Tehran and Washington.
